An exhibition of exquisite and exclusive handicrafts and handloom creations from West Bengal is on here in the run up to the Durga Puja.

'Sharad Utsav' (Autumn Festival) brings together an array of vibrant craft items including hand-painted terracotta costume jewellery and traditional Dokra or lost-wax mould products, combining creativity and enchanting folk motifs.

"Geographical Indication-protected 'Nakshi Kantha' stoles, sarees, bags, lamp-shades and daily-use items depicting elaborate needlework, embossed leather bags and purses from Shantiniketan and wooden 'Bankura horses' would be the main attraction," a statement said.

The fair, which was inaugurated today, has been organised jointly by Government of West Bengal and the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited (CCIC)and would remain open for public till September 8.

To project the state as a travel destination, West Bengal's Department of Tourism is also organising a two-day 'Tourism Promotion Road Show' from tomorrow in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The conclave would showcase the lucrative special tourism packages in specially set-up stalls for online booking (including hotel accommodation, train/air tickets) for a holiday experience during the Puja in West Bengal, besides other prominent sight-seeing destinations.
