Father-son duo killed in road accident in J&K

A man and his seven-year-old son were killed when a truck they were travelling in plunged into a gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The mishap occurred when the truck, which was on its way to Kishtwar from Thathri area of Doda district, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Phagumar late last evening, police said today.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh (40) and his minor son Atif Hussain, they said.

Police and other rescue teams rushed to the accident spot and took the victims to a hospital in Kishtwar where doctors declared them brought dead, they said.
 

Meanwhile, senior Congress MLA Inderwal G M Saroori has expressed grief over the accident and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.

Saroori has also demanded immediate ex-gratia relief of Rupees one lakh each to the next of kin of the victims and blamed state government for failing to reduce road accidents in the state.
