A disaster was averted today after Manipur fire services along with police personnel successfully doused the flames that engulfed an oil tanker at a petrol outlet here.
A spark suddenly engulfed the oil tanker while some employees of the fuel outlet were trying to transfer petrol from the 12 KL oil tanker pump at around 11:50 am, the police said.
No particular reason could be ascertained as to how the spark originated, the police officer said.
As soon as the fire broke out, fire and police personnel rushed to the site and prevented all vehicular movements to control the situation.
Foams were used to extinguish the fire.
The incident comes during a time when the state is facing acute fuel shortage due to the economic blockade imposed by United Naga Council on the lifelines of the landlocked state.
