The nephew of former MP and senior Congress leader Sajjansinh Varma was today arrested here for allegedly hatching a plot to kill a prominent sand trader.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vinayprkash Paul told reporters that Rinku (37), a nephew of the former MP, was nabbed on the basis of a tip-off at Devguradiya intersection on Bypass road.

He was heading to a relative's house in nearby Mahu village, Paul said.

Rinku, who already has 12 criminal cases registered against him, was involved in real estate business and wanted to bump off the trader to gain dominance in the sand trade in Madhya Pradesh, the ASP said.

Police in August had arrested three Uttar Pradesh-based contract killers and two other accused before the conspiracy could be executed. The ASP, however, did not reveal the name of the sand trader who was the supposed target.

Paul also said that police had found evidence of Rinku's involvement in a case of murder in Hoshangabad district and in the kidnapping for ransom of a petrol pump owner from Dhamnod in Dhar district. Further inquiries are on, he added.
