Gujarat government has filed a reply opposing the Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rahul Sharma's petitions before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) where he has challenged the charge sheet issued against him by the state's home department.

"The petition is filed at a premature stage," the state's reply, filed today, said.

Government counsel Manisha Luvkumar said the reply also said that Sharma's petition was in a wrong "format".

Sharma has filed three petitions. In one of them, he contends that the government has issued charge sheet and held back his promotion with malafide intention as he had submitted some crucial evidence before the Justice Nanavati Commission which probed the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Sharma, when he was Rajkot DIG, was given six show-cause notices and 52 letters, accusing him of misconduct.

The home department also made some adverse remarks in his Annual Confidential Report which obstructed his promotion.

He has demanded an independent inquiry into his harassment by the government.

The next hearing before the CAT would be on May 1.
