HC directs govt to take steps for implemenaion of FSSA

The Madras High Court today directed Tamil Nadu government to take steps for effective implementation of Food Safety Standards Act.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar gave the order on a PIL by R Karthikeyan seeking to issue a direction to authorities for preventing production and marketing of unsafe milk by private milk producers and confiscate unsafe milks available in the markets.
Tamil Nadu government itself had stated that the milk marketed by some private companies contained formaldehyde which is a harmful substance and it would cause cancer to the consumers, the petitionerr said.
