Mizoram Chief Minister and state PCC chief Lal Thanhawla today said the ruling Congress and Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) would forge pre-poll alliance in the coming election to the 19-ward Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) with MPC contesting five seats.

Addressing the delegates of the 'State Convention' of the Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) in Aizawl, Lal Thanhawla urged the Congress members not to hesitate to vote for the symbols of other parties with which the party formed alliance in the polls.

Earlier, the MPC, in a press statement confirmed that the Congress-MPC combine would contest the coming AMC polls likely to be held during November.

The MPC made it clear that the party would not field candidate for the coming by-poll to the Aizawl North-III assembly seat to be held on November 21 and would support the Congress candidate - former Health Minister Lal Thanzara.

The by-poll was necessitated by the resignation of the chief minister's younger brother on August 18 over allegations of conflict of interests and misuse of public office.
