Legal action to be initiated against Wakf encroachers

Andhra Pradesh government will initiate criminal action against those who have encroached upon Wakf properties in the state, a senior official said today.

Andhra government's Ministry of Minorities Special Secretary Mohammed Iqbal announced that criminal action would be initiated against those who have encroached upon Wakf properties.

After reviewing a meeting of his department's officials, he said the government was committed to protect Wakf lands and also enhance revenue from those properties.

He said in all districts, District Wakf Properties Protection Committees have been constituted under the chairmanship of district collectors.

He said that by enhancing revenue, the department would take up various social welfare schemes for minorities, particularly health and employment schemes.
