Lt Gen B S Sahrawat today took over as the General Officer Commanding of the prestigious Vajra Corps.
Lt Gen Sahrawat, who has relieved Lt Gen J S Cheema, was commissioned in December, 1980 in 13th Bn (Rezang La), the Kumaon Regiment and commanded the same regiment in Ladakh and during Operation Parakram in 2001-2002.
The officer has commanded a Mountain Brigade at Lucknow and an Infantry Division in Meerut, said an official release.

An alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, the General Officer has had a distinguished career spanning more than 35 years during which he has tenanted numerous sensitive and coveted appointments in various parts of the country and abroad which included an assignment as a Military Observer in Iraq and Kuwait for a year.
Lt Gen Sahrawat was the Director General in the Land, Works and Environment Directorate in Army Headquarters prior to assuming command of the Jalandhar-based Vajra Corps.
