Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader R R Patil today claimed that in most fields the state was ahead of the neighbouring BJP-ruled Gujarat.
Addressing a campaign rally for NCP-Congress alliance's candidate Sunil Tatkare here, Patil said while Maharashtra was ahead in terms of per capita income, investment and other indicators, Gujarat was ahead only in "riots".
The development model of Gujarat was not "affordable" to the country, he said.

Taking a jibe at Shiv Sena, Patil said it had no future as its leaders and supporters were deserting it.
Dalit leader and RPI chief Ramdas Athavale, who has allied with Shiv Sena and BJP, had forgotten that Sena had once opposed the demand to rename the Marathwada University for Dr B R Ambedkar, he said.
