Man attempts self-immolation in front of police station

Troubled over alleged harassment by health officials, a doctor has attempted self-immolation in front of Bastar district's Kanker police station.

Mahesh Sharma, a doctor, poured kerosene over himself last night around 9 pm and was about to set himself ablaze, but the Civil Surgeon intervened and foiled his attempt by snatching the matchbox, according to SDM Kanker, Renuka Srivastav.

He (Sharma) has alleged that he was being mentally harassed by a senior health official for the past few months over the issue of allotment of residence, Srivastav said.
