Man dies after bitten by bees

A 55-year-old man died after being bitten by a swarm of bees when he was collecting bamboo in a forest near Phuldungsei village in Mizoram, forest department officials said today.

Zatluanga, an employee of the Mizoram Environment and Forests department, and other workers went to the jungle for collecting bamboo and a swarm of bees attacked him yesterday, they said.

The bees, locally known as 'Khuaiselei', bit him all over his body. He ran away and entered the nearest house in Phuldungsei village. He was soon taken to the local Primary Health Centre where he died.

Zatluanga of West Darngawn village was working under the Dampa Wildlife Division and looking after the Dampa Tiger Reserve, they said.
