The district police has launched a manhunt for an unidentified man who allegedly raped a mentally challenged girl and left her pregnant, the police said today.
Police sub-inspector R S Busara of the Jawhar police station registered an offence under Section 376 (2)(l) of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown person, the police said.
According to a complaint by the girls's mother who is a farm labourer, her 22-year-old mentally challenged girl used to take the cattle to graze in the jungle everyday.

The accused had allegedly raped her when she was alone as a result of which the girl is four months pregnant, the complaint said.
The police said that it is finding it extremely difficult to get details from the girl because she is mentally challenged and is not in a position to reveal anything clearly, the police said.
