Noting that Maoist menace was already subdued in Odisha, the state's new DGP K B Singh today said it would be further contained by stepping up development in affected areas and keeping youths from joining rebel outfits.
"We have to work against Left Wing Extremism (LWE). In Odisha, Maoist activities are already subdued... Put under check," Singh, a 1985-batch IPS officer who took over charge as the state police chief today, said.
Maoist activities would be further checked by accelerating development activities in the affected areas and motivating youths against joining the red rebels.
Efforts could also be taken for providing employment to youths in Maoist-hit areas, Singh said.
Steps would be taken to make the force more responsive to the public, society and community.
Police would make efforts to become more responsive to gender issues and weaker section of the society, he said, adding "We will try to make life of the people safe."
Police modernisation would be given adequate attention and the anti-corruption vigilance wing would be strengthened by filling up vacancies and imparting proper training to the personnel, Singh said.
Regarding cyber crimes, the new police chief said it is a challenging area and focus would be on strengthening manpower and keeping pace with new technologies.
Singh was working as director of state vigilance. He succeeded Sanjeev Marik who went on leave before his retirement due in December 31.
