Trivandrum Marathon 2015 held

A number of runners including 80 full marathoners and 380 half runners participated in the Trivandrum Marathon 2015 braving rain here today.

Olympian Preeja Sreedharan flagged off the race, organised by Trivandrum Runners' Club at 4 am.

According to organisers, the full marathoners had to complete four loops in the course spanning 10.5 kilometers per round starting with University Stadium and touching Museum, Vellayambalam, Trivandrum Tennis Club, SreeMoolam Club, Statue, Ayurveda College and back to University Stadium here.

After the full marathoners, about 380 half marathoners had to finish two loops in the course and finish at the Stadium, organisers said here in a release.
 

Followed by half marathoners, about 420 runners started the 10K open-run.

Kenyan athletes including Isaac Kipkemol N, Ruth Njeri M, Titus Kariuki W, Hannah Wabera G hit the track after the 10k open start.

They came to India to take part of various marathons here and was happy to come down to Trivandrum to take part on a running event in the state of Kerala, it said.

'Kid'Smile', a program to initiate the school kids to healthy lifestyle of running, was flagged off next. About 800 kids from various schools in the Thiruvananthapuram district took part in the race.

Kid'Smile was followed by corporate relay in which 6 organizations took part - Suntec, Reserve Bank of India(RBI), Envestnet, Qburst, Talwalkers and Cosmos Sports.

Five participants from each of these organizations ran two kilometers each to complete the 10 kilometers relay.

Suntec won the first price followed by RBI and Envesnet. 'Family Fun Run', an easy group run for the family was conducted after the relay. There were about 150 participants in the category.

Various races were also organized for the differently abled kids from various schools as well. These races were organized in association with Innerwheel Club of Trivandrum - Blossom.

About 1000 volunteers from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) helped organizing the marathon by manning the hydration stations for the runners and cheering the runners, the release added.
