Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma Wednesday said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government were giving importance to the priority areas as agreed upon by all the allies.

Sangma whose government would complete six months in office Thursday said "We have started a lot of things in the last six months. We have given more or less good direction to the priority areas that are important to us and the policies have been shaped up in those lines."

Talking to reporters here the chief minister did not specify the priority areas but during the budget session of the state Assembly he had said that education was the top priority of his government.

On the Common Minimum Programme, the chief minister said, "We have circulated the draft and a committee has been formed with all the coalition partners."

He promised that his government will be more "aggressive" in monitoring in the process of implementation and reviews at the ground level.

The MDA government has made it mandatory for ministers to visit districts and blocks on rotation basis for the ground level review with the concerned officials and departments, the chief minister said.

He, however, admitted that the government is facing financial difficulties and claimed that these are part of "governance".

"I am happy to say that things have really smoothened up in the last six months and we are very much now in a proper momentum to work," he said, adding that the government will be meeting with the revenue generation departments tomorrow to try and find out what else can be done to mop up resources for the state.

On coal mining ban, Conrad said the government is working hard so the matter gets resolved at the earliest.

He also informed that after the Coal Nationalisation Policy has been repealed (about four months) the government has sought the Centres permission to exempt us from the provisions of the MMDR Act.

"I am positive and hopeful that this particular thing will also take shape but it is incorrect for me to give a statement on this regard on the status but I can tell the work is on and let us hope for a positive result," he said.

With regards to the non-payment of salaries to teachers under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan schools, the chief minister informed that negotiations are on with the Centre.
