A 19-year-old NCC cadet today died of bullet injury when his rifle allegedly went off suddenly during at a firing practice range here.
The incident occurred when Dhanush Krishna, a BSc second year student of a college, was resting at a nearby shed after lunch in the National Cadet Corps Firing Range in West Hill, NCC Deputy Group Commandant Colonel Nandakumar said.
The cadet was sitting, holding the rifle, when it went off suddenly and a bullet hit him in the chest, he told PTI.

This is the second incident of an NCC cadet being killed during firing practice in the state since last year. Anas (18) had died of a bullet injury suffered during a NCC training camp in Kannur in September.
A profusely bleeding Krishna was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city where doctors declared him dead after 15 minutes of treatment, the NCC official said.
Three hundred cadets were attending the 0.22 rifle firing practice in the range since this morning.
Police officials and the sub-collector rushed to the spot and were looking into the incident.
The Director General (HQ), NCC, Bengaluru, has ordered an inquiry into the incident, Nandakumar added.
