The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has identified 284 religious places in the city as "unauthorised" in a recent survey and plans to complete their demolition October next year, a senior city official said.

"As per Supreme Court's directives, the NMC conducted a survey in the civic body's jurisdiction and identified 284 unauthorised places of worship," Jeevan Sonawane, Additional Commissioner, NMC told reporters yesterday.

The NMC has sought objections, if any, from the citizens till March 3, 2016, he said, adding it would start razing the structures after that.

The demolition is aimed to be completed by October 2017, he said.

In a separate survey conducted before 2009, 1,064 such places were identified, which included 266 in Old Bhadrakali locality, 233 in Panchavati locality, 163 in Upnagar locality, he said.

He said the civic body has uploaded the list of the total 1,348 places (identified before and after 2009) on its website.
