Worried over the safety of Jagamohan, the prayer hall of Sri Jagannth Temple at Puri, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sought personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"An intervention scheme with stainless steel supporting frames to address the acute structural problems of the Jagamohan was forwarded by the Superintendent Archaeologist, Bhubaneswar for approval of the ASI DG based on the recommendation of the technical core committee," Patnaik said in a letter to the Prime Minister.

"Unfortunately, the same has been disapproved by the DG without proposing any alternative solution to avoid any unforeseen failure with suggestion for further study," the letter said.

Noting that the present distressed condition of Jagamohan needs immediate structural intervention to avoid any accidental failure, Patnaik said the state government would bear all the expenditures for the work.

He urged the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter personally to save this 12th century monument before any unfortunate incident.
