Heat wave conditions swept across Odisha today with the mercury soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in about ten places and the state capital Bhubaneswar turning the hottest place at 41.3 deg C.
The entire state, particularly the western region has been experiencing gruelling heat as the maximum temperature in Titlagarh was recorded at 41 degree Celsius, followed by 40.5 degrees Celsius at both Balangir and Bhawanipatna and 40.3 deg at Angul, the meteorological centre here said.
In Baripada, the mercury touched 40.2 deg C, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.1 degrees at Chandbali, it said.

It said the day temperature increased in coastal Odisha and also interior parts primarily due to clear sky conditions and absence of sea breeze.
As per Numerical Weather Prediction models, rise in day temperature would continue for a week, it added.
