A total of Rs 2.17 crore cash has been seized so far from Madurai district where the Thiruparankundram Assembly constituency is going to by-poll on November 19.
District Collector Veeraraghava Rao told reporters that the seizures were made during vehicle checking.
Three companies of paramilitary personnel would be on security duty for the by-poll from today, he added.
The by-poll to Thiruparankundram was necessitated following the death of AIADMK's Seenivel who had won the seat in the May 16 polls.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against DMK candidate Saravanan for allegedly distributing money among voters.
The Model Code of Conduct is in effect throughout Madurai district, though the by-election is slated to be held only in Thiruparankundram Assembly constituency.
