Pancreatic cancer resection surgery performed in city hospial

A 32-year-old man, suffering from blood cancer underwent pancreatic cancer resection surgery at a city hospital here.

The man from Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district had come to Aurag Hospital and he was diagonised with blood cancer, Dr John Thanakumar, Head of the hospital, told reporters here today.

As the treatment was started for the blood cancer and the raised blood counts were controlled, the patient was noted to have pancreatic head cancer also at the same time, Thanakumar said.

The patient underwent surgery, after ensuring that the leukemia was under control.

Major surgery of the pancreatic head with removal of the stomach and upper part of the small intestine, gall bladder and bile ducts was carried out, he said.
 

The five-hour long surgery involved removal of the cancerous pancreatic head with affected intestine, gall bladder, bile duct and the stomach, Thanakumar said.

The patient, a newly appointed driver in State transport corporation, is recovering, he said.
