Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured all possible assistance for the development of coir industry in the country.
Appreciating the active participation of stakeholders from coir-producing states, especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in the India International Coir Fair 2016, and the efforts of the Coir Board to promote the four-day fair which recently concluded here, the prime minister assured necessary assistance to the coir industry during a meeting with Coir Board Chairman C P Radhakrishnan in New Delhi early today.
Radhakrishnan apprised Modi of the current scenario of the industry in the country and stressed the need for a paradigm shift in the advancement of technology in the industry, a release from the board said.

The chairman also presented a portrait of the prime minister, made out of a coir mat, as a memento to him.
The piece of work made by Travancore Cocotuft, a leading coir exporter at Cherthala in Kerala, had attracted lakhs of people who visited the fair, it said.
