Police busts gang of auto-lifters

With the arrest of three of its members here, police today claimed to have busted a gang of auto-lifters who were involved in nearly 100 such cases in Delhi and neighbouring region.

The accused identified as gang leader Devender Kumar, Satpal and Somveer were arrested near Digambar Jain Mahila Ashram, Ghata Masjid Road at Daryaganj, based on a tip-off, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

Three stolen motorcycles, one car and two fake registration certificates were recovered from the accused who were involved in more than 100 cases of auto thefts in Delhi and NCR region, he said.
 

During the investigation, it was found that Devender and Satpal used to steal vehicles along with their accomplice Bunty. The forged papers of stolen vehicles were prepared by one Aligarh resident Rakesh.

Accused Somveeer was buyer of the stolen vehicles who used to sell them to bona fide customers as genuine vehicles, the officer said.
