President confers awards to scholars

Eminent scholars of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian were today awarded 'certificates of honour' by President Pranab Mukherjee.

The Maharishi Badrayan Vyas Samman to young scholars for the year 2014 was also conferred on the occasion, said a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The scheme for award of 'certificates of honour' was introduced in 1958.

From the year 2008, the scheme was extended to cover one international award for an NRI or foreigner for their lifetime achievement in the field of Sanskrit.
