In a bid to increase the forest cover in the state, the Punjab government has decided to plant 4.75 crore saplings in the current year 2013-14.

While informing this here today, an official spokesman said that the state government is deeply concerned over the fast reduction of green cover due to the deforestation activities like agriculture or wood harvesting.

He said that keeping this in view, the government has also decided to purchase the non-forest lands in the state, so that plantation drive could be initiated on large scale.
