Renault-Nissan appoints Colin Macdonald as Chennai plant MD

Franco-Japanese auto alliance Renault-Nissan today appointed Colin Macdonald as the head of its manufacturing plant in Chennai.

Macdonald has been appointed Managing Director of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) effective April 1, 2015.

"He will be responsible for the operations of the Renault-Nissan Alliance factory at Oragadam near Chennai," RNAIPL said in a statement.

Toshihiko Sano, currently Managing Director at RNAIPL, will take up a new position as Senior Vice President of Nissan's key supplier, Calsonic Kansei in Japan.

Commenting on the appointment, Nissan's Executive Vice President in charge of global manufacturing Fumiaki Matsumoto said: "Under Colin's leadership RNAIPL will continue to be a major manufacturing hub for Nissan, making great products in India for export around the world."
 

Macdonald began his career at Nissan in the Sunderland plant in 1991 and has been Deputy Managing Director of RNAIPL since January 2014.

The plant has an installed annual capacity of 4,80,000 units and exports to over 100 countries, making Nissan the third biggest exporter of cars from India. The alliance employs more than 15,000 people in India.

Nissan India Operations President Guillaume Sicard said cars produced at Oragadam will support Nissan's push for sales growth in India

"We see India as a key strategic market .. We are determined to be a major player in the market here, as we already are in many other regions of the world," Sicard said.
