The Renault-Nissan Alliance today donated Rs 1 crore to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund towards relief and rehabilitation efforts in the wake of Chennai floods.

"We offer our deepest sympathy to those who have been affected by the worst floods in decades and express our admiration for citizens of Chennai, who have shown great resilience in these tough times," Renault-Nissan Alliance Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn said in a statement.

The Alliance has strong roots in Chennai and will assist in all possible ways to restore normalcy, including its employees and suppliers, he added.

Separately, the company has already donated Rs 5 lakh to the office of the Joint Director of Industrial Health and Safety, Tamil Nadu, and the local Lions Club, the statement read.

"The donation has helped in procuring relief material in Tambaram and Kancheepuram districts, which are closest to the Renault-Nissan Alliance factory," it added.

In addition, the Renault Nissan Alliance set up a separate Employee Relief Fund to provide assistance to employees who have suffered losses, it said.
