Royal Stag deer hacked to death

endangered species, was killed by unidentified miscreants in a tea garden in Jorhat district today.

The deer which strayed into Hollonguri Tea Estate near Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary in Mariani area bordering Nagaland was attacked by the miscreants who wanted to take away its meat, Mariani Range Officer Dibakar Medhi said.

Forest officials rushed to the spot and the miscreants could not take away the venison.

The skin and horn of the animal would be preserved in the animal museum at Kohora in Kaziranga, he added.

The forest department has also lodged a complaint with the garden management in this connection, he added.
