Sam Mendes in early talks to direct live-action Pinocchio film

Filmmaker Sam Mendes is in early negotiations to direct Disney's upcoming "Pinocchio" movie.

The studio has previously tackled Pinocchio as an animated movie in 1940, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The story revolves around a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy.

Mendes' most recent film was the James Bond installment "Spectre," and he is currently directing the West End play "The Ferryman".
