Scrapping of Rs 500, Rs 1000 notes a milestone: Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today hailed as a "milestone in nation's progress" the demonetisation of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Historic and courageous decision on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to stop corruption and flow of black money. *Hats off* Hon @narendramodi ji !," the CM tweeted.

"People of our nation would support and participate like true soldiers in this war against black money. This is a milestone in nation's progress," he said.

In a major assault on black money, fake currency and corruption, the PM tonight announced scrapping of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes with effect from midnight, making them invalid for transaction.
