Senior citizen, caretaker murdered in Thane city

A 70-year-old man and his caretaker were murdered by unknown persons in Bramhand locality of Thane's Ghodbunder area, police said today.

The two - Sitaram Shroff and his caretaker Santosh Lavangare (40) - were found dead inside an apartment in the Regency Heights housing complex last night, they said.

The elderly man was smothered with a pillow while the caretaker was stabbed to death by the unknown assailants, Senior Police Inspector P D Tele, of Kasarwadavali police station, said.

According to preliminary information, the murder took place around 5-5.30 PM, he said

Senior police officials from Thane rushed to the spot following the incident.
 

The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, police said adding that they suspect that the killers might have been known to the deceased.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem.

The Kasarwadavali police have registered offences under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint).

A hunt for the killers was on, police said.
