A six-year-old girl was found lying unconscious in Ram Niwas Garden area here after which a case of rape was lodged against an unidentified person at the Lal Kothi police station today.
A medical examination of the girl confirmed rape and she is undergoing treatment at J K Lone Hospital where her condition is stated to be critical, police said.
The girl, hailing from Indore, along with her mother and elder sister were living nomad's life in the city from the last two months.
Late last night, the accused lured her to a secluded place in the garden and allegedly raped her, Sub-Inspector Ramavtar Singh said.
When her mother and elder sister could not find her despite several attempts they lodged a complaint with the police station.
Police have registered a case under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
