Sugar prices spurted by up to Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today as demand from retailers picked up following beginning of new month amid thin supplies from mills.
Besides, summers season demand from bulk consumers supported the upside.
Marketmen attributed the spurt in sweetner prices to strong demand from retailers and bulk consumers on the back of beginning of new month and summer season.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices shot up by Rs 100 each to end at Rs 3,800-3,900 and Rs 3,790-3,890 per quintal.
Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also zoomed by Rs 90 each to settle at Rs 3,490-3,600 and Rs 3,480-3,590 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar Ramala, Baghpat, Anupshaher, Morna and Nazibabad flared up by Rs 90 each to Rs 3,490, Rs 3,500, Rs 3,490, Rs 3,500 and Rs 3,490, while Chandpur by Rs 80 at Rs 3,520 per quintal.
Prices of Malakpur, Mawana, Dhanora, Dhampur, Dorala and Sakoti all were up by Rs 80 each to Rs 3,530, Rs 3,550, Rs 3,540 Rs 3,530, Rs 3,550 and Rs 3,530, while Asmoli gained by Rs 60 at Rs 3,560 per quintal.
