Sugar edges down on subdued demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar edged down further at the Vashi wholesale market today due to subdued demand from stockists and retailers amid ample supply.

Small sugar (S-30) eased by Rs 2 per quintal to Rs 2,682/2,792 from Monday's level of Rs 2,680/2,792.

Medium sugar (M-30) moved down by Rs 2 per quintal to Rs 2,780/2,912 as against Rs 2,782/2,912 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,682/2,792 (Rs 2,680/2,792)

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,780/2,912 (Rs 2,782/2,912).
