Surgeons perform complicated operation to save youth

"Amar Singh was fired at his back ten days ago...The bullet damaged his ribs, lung, liver and diaphragm (which separates the thoracic cavity - heart, lungs and ribs - from the abdominal cavity) and embedded inside the pericardium in the backside of the heart," Sanjeev Devgarha of cardiothoracic surgery department in Swai Man Singh medical college hospital said here today.

Singh, a cloth merchant in Alwar, was shot at by an unidentified man near his house recently.

He was admitted to a local hospital from where he was referred to the SMS hospital.

After the operation, the condition of the patient is stable, Devgarha said.

 

The operation was performed under the direction of R M Mathur, Cardiothoracic surgery department head, by a team comprising Sunil Sharma, Ramswaroop Sen, Amita Yadav, Vijju and Beena.
