Union minister Rajnath Singh today stressed on teaching of Sanskrit to school children and said without it they will not come to know about the culture, tradition and heritage of the country.
"If children are to be introduced to the culture, tradition and heritage of India, it is not possible without the knowledge of Sanskrit literature in detail," he said at a function here.
Stressing on the ways and means to ensure that children develop a liking for Sanskrit, the Union Home Minister said, "Sanskrit books have everything, even science."
Singh said these days, by surfing the Internet for an hour or two daily, can one can get knowledge of any subject in 20 to 25 days' time, but this kind of knowledge is not enough for a human being.
"We have heard about terrorists with technical degrees or are graduates or post graduates. They too have knowledge on different subjects. But, this is not enough as character building is also important. It is attained through values, without which knowledge is never beneficial for the society," he said.
Asserting that character building is not possible only through education, he said it is possible through "diksha" which is an amalgamation of thinking, direction, values and principles and results in all round personality development.
