Mercury went up across Rajasthan today giving respite to people from the cold conditions on the New Year eve.

Sriganganagar recorded the state's lowest temperature of 6.3 degrees Celsius, a MeT report said.

Due to fog in neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, nine trains of North Western Railway were running late by up to 5 hour 30 minutes, NWR CPRO Tarun Jain said here.

Sultanpur-Ahmedabad train is running 5 hr 30 mts late followed by New Tinsukhia-Lalgarh train by 5 hrs 25 mts, Varanasi-Jodhpur train by 4 hr 55 mts, and Howrah-Sriganga Nagar 4 hr 50 mts.

Due to passing out of western disturbance, the mercury has risen sharply in western Rajasthan covering Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner where the night temperature varied between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius last night.

However Jalore was the hottest during day with 33.3 degrees, and Barmer and Jodhpur recorded 33 and 32.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Elsewhere, the night temperature varied between 10 and 13.9 at many places including Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Barmer, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer.

A new blow of northerly cold winds may strike Rajasthan in the next 24 hours and then the mercury may dip further, according to a MeT department forecast.
