Theatre artists spread awareness about eye donation

Press Trust of India New Delhi
A definitive knock on conscience of society to donate their eyes for a noble cause is what a group of theatre artists aim for with their plays.

The Green Room Theatre Culture Society has joined hands with Run For Vision, a non-profit company working for eye donation, to drill the message across theatre lovers and the masses about eye donations.

Neelanjana, who is playing one of the lead artist in the play and is also the joint secretary of the society said, "Over time, through our shows, we have realised that we can do a lot more. Corporate partnerships can provide an opportunity to send out social messages to our audience and patrons."

"I believe eye donation is one of the most noble causes to make a contribution because if a person is given a chance to see and experience the world, then he experiences freedom and in many cases the person becomes the bread earning member in the family," said Ashok Mahindru, who leads the initiative at Run For Vision.

Run For Vision Foundation's eye donation campaign has over the years received considerable participation in its initiatives including Marathons, Walk For Vision among others.

Cricketer Virender Sehwag had also joined the campaign to raise awareness for eye donation in Gurgaon-Run For Vision Marathon event in 2009.
