A youth arrested for allegedly eloping with a minor girl died in police custody following which three constables have been suspended.
Outpost in-charge of Sarai Ghaar Haroon Lateef and two constables have been suspended in connection with death of Manoj (20) in police custody yesterday, Additional Superintendent of Police Shambhu Sharan Yadav said.
He said Manoj was arrested last week in Chennai for eloping with a Class XI girl from here.
An FIR was registered against him for kidnapping at Raipur police station here on January 28.
Manoj had fled to Chennai from where he was arrested and being brought back, Yadav said.
The ASP said the youth fell ill on the way when they were in Andhra Pradesh and died after being brought to the police outpost here.
However, Manoj's family members have accused the police of killing him.
