BJP in Tamil Nadu today sought to know why the opposition parties were criticising state Governor Banwarilal Purohit over his meeting with district officials here when state ministers themselves have not found anything amiss.

The ministers themselves welcomed such a review by the Governor then what was bothering the political parties which opposed the development, state unit President Tamilisai Soundararajan told reporters here.

The Governor was functioning according to mandate, but opposition parties were criticising as if he had convened the state assembly, she said.

The BJP leader was responding to questions on the opposition parties' criticism of Purohit for holding the meeting with top district officials here earlier this week, charging that it amounted to interfering in the state's autonomy.

Several ministers, including S P Velumani and Dindigul Srinivasan, have brushed aside the opposition parties' criticism, saying there was nothing wrong in the Governor holding such meetings.

Those criticising the Governor over the meeting were not bothered about the welfare of the people, she added.

On the recent income tax raids against jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala's family members, she said late chief minister J Jayalalithaa herself would have been shocked and surprised to know about the wealth allegedly amassed by her close aides.
