Mumbai Police's crime branch has arrested two persons for allegedly framing up a man in a case of illegal possession of firearms and narcotic drugs.

Ajay Chaudhry and Ejaz Sheikh were arrested by the sleuths of the crime branch, said DCP Mohan Dahikar tonight.

They were remanded in police custody till December 10 by a local court today.

Chaudhry had approached the police saying that he knew about a person, a butcher by profession, who had a few revolvers and 100 gms of brown sugar in his possession.

Acting on his tip, crime branch sleuths raided the man's shop in Bharat Nagar area of Bandra and seized the contraband last Sunday.

But his questioning led the police to believe that he was innocent, and suspect Chaudhry who had by then become untraceable.

Probe revealed that Chaudhry had tried to frame up the butcher in a false case at the instance of Ejaz Sheikh.

Upon his arrest last night, Sheikh allegedly told police that he wanted to take revenge on the butcher, so he hatched this conspiracy to frame him up.

According to the police, four of Sheikh's relatives had murdered the butcher's son. They were subsequently arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Sheikh therefore held a grudge against him.

Police are now looking for a woman accomplice of Sheikh's who planted the contraband at the victim's shop.
