District Collector of Puducherry D Manikandan today issued an order, prohibiting demonstrations by political parties, labour and student organisations, outfits of government staff and others within a radius of 200 metres from the Revenue Complex at Pudupalayam in Saram.
A release issued by the Collector said the Revenue complex houses offices of Collectorate, Deputy Collector (North), the court of Sub Divisional Magistrate (North), Directorate of Survey and Land Records, Departments of Planning and Research and Directorate of Economics and Statistics.
It was stated that there was no safe compound wall and there was only limited access control.

With demonstrators and those holding agitations, picketing and dharnas at the instance of organisations of students, labourers, employees and others possess threat to security.
A need has therefore arisen to prohibit any means of assembly or holding of agitations within 200 metres in the periphery of revenue complex.
The prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC was clamped with immediate effect, the release said.
The order however is not applicable for government functions, funeral processions or any other government sponsored activities.
