Two cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been detected from two villages in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh forcing the health authorities to sound an alert in the state.
"Two patients, Dai Yaju and Hai Kiokam, from Chimpu and Tarajuli villages were detected with Japanese Encephalitis recently and they are presently undergoing treatment at Guwahati," district Vector Borne Disease Control Officer Tatung Tayang said here today.
On receiving the report, a team led by Tayang rushed to the area for investigation about vector breeding and its habitat which revealed that the patients' dwelling place surrounded by forest and pigsty built nearby.
"Pigs, herons and egrets which are amplifying hosts for Japanese Encephalitis virus were available in the dwelling areas," he said.
The team brought awareness among the villagers about the causes and preventive measure and background of the disease, which are mostly breeds in paddy field and advised them not to construct pigsty and not to allow stagnant water nearby dwelling places.
