The University Grants Commission is devising a scheme for promotion of Sanskrit teaching and learning and under a database of teachers who teach in the classical language is underway.
In a letter written today to Vice Chancellors of over 120 Universities, UGC chairman Prof Ved Prakash has sought the details of faculty teaching in Sanskrit in their institutions for its database.
"The UGC is in the process of devising a scheme for further development and promotion of Sanskrit teaching and learning in the country. As a part of this endeavour, the UGC, in order to coordinate the work of Universities, proposes to prepare a database of teachers engaged in teaching and learning in Sanskrit," Prakash said in his letter in which he sought details of sanskrit faculty.

The UGC chairman also said that the HRD ministry has launched a 'Bharatvani' project which is a web portal for delivering knowledge in and about all Indian languages.
Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), has been entrusted with the task of managing this initiative, he said.
He sought that Universities collect instructional materials and literature used to transact teaching in Sanskrit and upload them for the Bharatvani initiative.
