Venture capital funding in the smart grid sector stood at USD 81 million in the July-September quarter of 2015, according clean energy consultant Mercom Capital Group.
"Venture Capital (VC) funding (including private equity and corporate venture capital) for smart grid companies came to USD 81 million in 12 deals in Q3 2015, compared to USD 104 million in 18 deals in Q2 2015," Mercom Capital Group said in a statement.
It further said that Year-to-date (YTD), smart grid companies have raised USD 370 million compared to USD 325 million raised in the same period in 2014.

PubNub, which provides data stream network to power real-time apps for home automation, raised the largest amount of USD 20 million from Sapphire Ventures, Relay Ventures and Scale Venture Partners during July-September this year.
Battery and storage companies received USD 96 million in VC funding in nine deals in the third quarter of 2015, against USD 126 million in 13 deals in the second quarter 2015.
"Battery/Storage companies have received USD 290 million YTD in 2015 compared to USD 383 million raised during the same time in 2014," it added.
Energy efficiency companies raised USD 316 million in VC funding in 17 deals in the third quarter compared to the USD 211 million in 18 deals in the second quarter of 2015.
"Energy Efficiency companies have brought in USD 667 million YTD in 2015 compared to USD 604 million in the same period in last year," it added.
