The tussle in Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board today intensified as it issued an ultimatum to cleric Kalbe Jawwad and Congress MLA Nawab Kazim Ali to leave the post of 'mutwalli' or caretaker of waqf properties in next five days or else FIRs would be lodged against them.

Jawwad and Ali, who have been involved in bitter spat with Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister Azam Khan, were among 27 caretakers of endowed properties sacked by the Board last week.

Refusing to quit, Jawwad, who had alleged that the action was taken at the behest of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, dared the Waqf Board to approach the police against him saying he too wanted the "lies" against him to be "exposed in court".

Apart from the two, Sayed Saifi has also been issued the warning

"27 mutwallis, including Jawwad and Ali, of various waqf properties were removed by the Board in its meeting on on Jan 6. Of them, Jawwad, Ali and Sayed Saifi have not left their posts. They have been given time till this week to leave after which proceedings to register FIR against them will be initiated from January 19," Board Chairman Wasim Rizvi told PTI.

He said that while Jawwad had sought three days' time, Ali could not be traced while Saifai was organising protests against the decision to remove him as mutwalli.

Reacting to it, Jawwad said that he himself wanted that FIR be lodged against him.

"I want them to lodge an FIR against me so that in court their lie and fraud are exposed. How can a Chairman, who has resigned, remove me and others," Jawwad said.

"I and other mutwallis have not received any authorised letter from the Board. A clerk posted in the Board has sent a letter in this regard and that has no meaning for us," he added.

Jawwad claimed that no meeting of the Board was held on January 6 and they will not consider the letter of a clerk.

Jawwad and Azam Khan have levelled allegations of corruption against each other in connection with the affairs of the Waqf Board.
