Wheat prices edged higher by 0.36 per cent to Rs 1,691 per quintal in futures market today as speculators created fresh positions, triggered by pick up in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in July month edged up by Rs 6, or 0.36 per cent to Rs 1,691 per quintal with an open interest of 3,190 lots.

Similarly, the wheat for delivery in June contracts traded higher by Rs 3, or 0.18 per cent to Rs 1,661 per quintal in 15,590 lots.

Analysts said speculative positions built up by traders due to pick-up in demand in the spot market helped wheat prices to trade higher at futures trade.
