The necessity of today's world is development and not damage, Nepal's former prime minister Khil Raj Regmi said today, raising concerns over the atomic weapons race.
Regmi, who headed an interim government in Nepal between 2013-14, said, "The competition in production of atomic weapons is excessive. In many countries, conflicts and tensions prevail which is not appropriate for human society in the 21st century."
Necessity for the world is "not damage but development", he said while speaking at the concluding function of the three-day 'India Ideas Conclave 2017' in Goa.
"This means prosperity and promotion of humanity should be made priorities. The promotion of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) is the main need of the present day," he said.
"This concept applies in the relationship of nations and we must focus on mutual coexistence and harmony," Regmi said.
The former Nepal prime minister said that society should always promote peace, harmony and values for sustainability and maintenance of scientific development.
"Human society can avoid conflict, misunderstanding only when the identity and existence of each other is accepted," he said.
