Wall Street closes up after five days of losses

Reuters NEW YORK

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street closed higher on Thursday after five sessions of losses as investors digested the implications of a British lawmaker's death on the country's impending vote on membership in the European Union.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 93.34 points, or 0.53 percent, to 17,733.51, the S&P 500 <.SPX> gained 6.53 points, or 0.32 percent, to 2,078.03 and the Nasdaq Composite <.IXIC> added 9.98 points, or 0.21 percent, to 4,844.92.
